Job Summary

The Strategic Transactions Legal Technology Lead is responsible for supporting the adoption and implementation of advanced legal technology and artificial intelligence tools within Ropes & Gray's Strategic Transactions Group, which includes the firms Capital Markets practice, Venture Investing and Emerging Companies practice, Strategic M&A and IP Transactions practice.

This role focuses on driving innovation in transactional workflows, supporting the integration of tools such as Harvey, Hebbia, and ChatGPT, and partnering with attorneys to enhance client delivery, internal efficiency, and knowledge accessibility. The ideal candidate is a seasoned service industries professional with relevant legal experience who understands the unique demands of deal work and is passionate about leveraging technology to improve how legal services are delivered.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Strategic Transactions Legal Technology Lead will be expected to:
  • Collaborate with partners and attorneys working in capital markets, strategic M&A, venture investing and licensing transactions to identify opportunities to improve legal workflows through technology and AI integration.
  • Assess and implement legal technology solutions to support transactional work, including diligence review, document drafting, and workflow automation.
  • Lead technology pilot programs, manage rollouts, and coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation and adoption.
  • Provide hands-on support to deal teams and business professionals throughout the adoption and integration process, including development of training materials and onboarding programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Group and internal innovation, IT, data, knowledge management and business services teams to ensure alignment and effectiveness of legal tech initiatives.
  • Contribute practitioner insights for the development and refinement of precedent, templates, and guidance materials.
  • Support the integration of AI tools to improve access to knowledge and improve information retrieval processes.
  • Support client-facing innovation opportunities, including co-development of tools, client transparency initiatives, and the delivery of value-added services through technology.
  • Assist with client proposals, RFPs, and business development efforts where innovation and legal technology are differentiators.
  • Stay informed on legal technology trends, market innovations, and evolving client expectations to help maintain the practice's competitive edge.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
  • J.D. degree and minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience. Additional professional services experience in a demanding, fast paced, high performance environment will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of deal processes and the legal issues commonly encountered in complex transactions.
  • Practical experience with and familiarity with legal AI tools.
  • Demonstrated interest in legal innovation, technology adoption, or legal operations.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with clients, attorneys, and cross-functional teams, as well as excellent public speaking abilities to demonstrate industry-wide thought leadership in leveraging technology to advance the Strategic Transactions Group.
Compensation

In accordance with the State's Pay Transparency Law the anticipated pay range for this position is $300,000 to $500,000 which represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary range at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary, year-end bonus.
