Overview
Human Resources Business Partner
Location: This is a hybrid role requiring in-office presence 4 days per week in the San Francisco or San Jose office.
About the Opportunity: A well-established, employee-owned company in the commercial construction and services industry, with approximately 300-500 employees, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join its Bay Area team. The organization operates multiple offices across the U.S. and is known for a strong, people-first culture and long-standing recognition as a top workplace. This role reports to a senior HR leader and partners closely with business leaders to support employee benefits, compliance, recognition, rewards, and core HR operations.

Responsibilities are organized into key focus areas below.
- Employee Benefits & Total Rewards
- Develop, administer, and maintain employee benefits programs across the organization and affiliated entities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries
- Oversee employee leave administration
- Act as liaison with benefits brokers
- Partner with HR colleagues on recognition, rewards, and service award programs
- Schedule and deliver benefits education and training
- Communicate benefits updates and regional compliance requirements
- Administer the performance management platform
- HR Generalist Responsibilities
- Manage the full employee lifecycle: offers, onboarding, offboarding, status changes, records, and HR systems
- Ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws
- Produce intermediate-level Excel reports related to headcount, compensation, and workforce analytics
- Complete required state and federal HR reporting
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding HR policies and programs
- Support and manage training related to hiring, performance management, promotions, terminations, and anti-harassment
- Partner with unions and field leadership to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), including union-related payroll matters
- Maintain and update job descriptions
- Participate in meetings, HR initiatives, and ongoing professional development
- Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years focused on employee benefits and compensation
- Experience across multiple HR disciplines, including:
- Employee Benefits & Leave Management
- Compensation
- Recognition & Rewards
- HR Systems (HRIS)
- Legislative & Regulatory Compliance
- Employee Relations
- Intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, charts, formulas)
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now and/or Lattice is a plus
- Exposure to union environments and the construction industry is preferred
- Strong coaching, communication, and conflict management skills
- High level of integrity, discretion, emotional intelligence, and accountability
- Ability to travel to regional offices as needed

- Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $135k - $195k (Exempt)
- Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and location
