About the roleAs People Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for the administrative and operational side of the People Team. We are seeking someone detail-oriented and tech-savvy to administer our HRIS and system integrations, and support the broader employee lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding. Reporting to People Programs Manager, you’ll partner closely with the People team to ensure data integrity and support payroll and benefits, compliance and HR audit processes.
You will also serve as a key resource to our employees, managing HR onboarding, payroll, leave management, and benefits administration.
This role is based out of our NYC office. For jobs based out of our NYC HQ, we require in office attendance Monday through Thursday, weekly. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
- New York City: $95,000 - $110,000

A day in the lifeHRIS & Integrations
- Serve as the primary administrator for HRIS (ADP), maintaining accurate employee data including hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations
- Ensure integrations function seamlessly between HR systems such as HRIS, ATS, benefits, and other tools, collaborating with IT when needed
- Maintain detailed documentation of system processes, integrations, and workflows
- Support pre-boarding and onboarding processes, coordinating with Recruiting, HR, and IT to ensure all employee documentation is completed and compliant
- Process employee record updates (e.g., job changes, promotions, terminations) and comply with recordkeeping and retention requirements
- Serve as a trusted point of contact for employee questions regarding HRIS, benefits, time off, and other people processes
- Partner with HR leadership to maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and employee experience
- Work with ADP payroll, benefits, and finance teams to ensure payroll deductions, changes, and reconciliations are correct, and integrations are functioning properly
- Partner with our benefits broker to prepare for and execute annual benefits open enrollment and renewal cycle, as well as qualifying life event support.
- Oversee the employee leave management process in partnership with our third-party vendor to create a smooth and clear leave experience for employees
- Support benefits and 401(k) audits by providing the necessary data and adhering to policies and applicable laws
- 3+ years of experience in People Operations or HR & Benefits Administration
- Hands-on experience managing ADP or comparable HRIS
- Familiarity with employment laws, leave regulations, and benefits compliance
- Proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets and comfort with HR technology
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to handle confidential data professionally and with discretion
