Position Overview

The Human Resources Manager is a key member of the Business Office, supporting the Director of Human Resources in managing HR operations for faculty, staff, and administrators. This role provides leadership and oversight to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency in HR processes, including payroll, benefits, and leaves administration. The HR Manager also serves as a resource for employee relations and policy guidance, and works to ensure that HR practices support the school’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities
HR Oversight & Compliance
  • In partnership with the HR Director, ensure compliance with California and federal employment laws, including wage/hour regulations, Cal/OSHA, and mandated trainings.
  • Review HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook; recommend updates as needed.
Payroll & Benefits
  • Lead management of payroll efforts - including completing, reviewing and ensuring accuracy.
  • Oversee benefits administration, ensuring enrollments, changes, and terminations are accurate.
  • Support the HR Director in open enrollment, renewals, and vendor management.
Leaves Of Absence, ADA & Workers’ Compensation
  • Review leave requests, ADA accommodations, and workers’ compensation claims for accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex or sensitive cases.
  • Ensure proper documentation and adherence to legal requirements.
Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Oversee recruitment processes, including job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
  • In conjunction with the HR Director, participate in interviews and hiring decisions alongside department leaders.
  • Ensure smooth onboarding, orientation, and offboarding processes.
Employee Relations & Engagement
  • Act as a resource for faculty and staff regarding HR policies and workplace concerns.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers on low-level employee relations matters, escalating more serious concerns to the HR Director.
  • Promote an inclusive workplace culture consistent with the school’s mission and values.
Performance Management & Development
  • Coordinate annual performance evaluation processes.
  • Support the HR Director in professional development and training initiatives.
  • Monitor completion of legally mandated training.
HR Reporting & Business Office Collaboration
  • Generate HR metrics and reports to support leadership decision-making.
  • Collaborate with payroll and finance staff in the Business Office to ensure alignment.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s a plus)
