At DECANT, we believe hospitality isn’t about transactions—it’s about making people feel seen, heard, and cared for. Wine is just our medium. If you’re energized by building real community and finding ways to make every guest’s day, this is your stage.
The RoleThe role will be an equal mix of administrative work and sommtending at our bar. You will work on assisting our owners with wine club management, inventory management, shipping orders, answering guest emails, creating marketing campaigns, and contributing to event activations for our guests and shoppers. Bar shifts will give you the opportunity to polish your service skills and relay your growing wine knowledge to our diverse crowd of regulars and out-of-towners.
This isn’t a job for bystanders or order-takers. As a Sommelier/Winetender at DECANT, you’re a hospitality leader : you drive the guest experience, build relationships that last, and spot opportunities to surprise and delight.
This role is also meant for someone who really wants to learn the world of small business operations. You love organization, feel confident as an independent thinker and problem-solver, and are comfortable with various forms of technology. Every day is an opportunity to learn!
What You’ll Do- Build community, inside and out. Don’t wait for customers to walk through the door—find them, invite them, and welcome them. Whether it’s collaborating with a local pop-up, connecting with a neighbor, or sparking a conversation at the bar, you help turn strangers into regulars.
- Go beyond customer service. Know names, stories, preferences. Anticipate needs. Make every guest feel like the most important person in the room.
- Be detail-obsessed and proactive. There’s always glassware to polish, inventory to tidy, displays to refresh, and opportunities to elevate the guest experience. If something needs doing, you’re on it—before being asked.
- Drive sales with genuine excitement. Guide guests through our selections, recommend the right bottle, help them join the wine club and promote our ticketed events.
- Contribute everywhere. You’ll share responsibility in everything from cleaning the floors to prepping food, restocking shelves, packing online orders, handling guest emails, and pitching in on social and newsletter content. DECANT is a team sport.
- Set the tone. You help create a space that’s organized, joyful, and always ready—no matter how busy the shift.
- You have formal wine education (CMS, WSET, CIA, NVWA, or similar).
- You bring at least 2 years of FOH wine experience (restaurant, bar, tasting room, or retail).
- Tech doesn’t scare you; you’re at home with Google Suite, spreadsheets, email, and are a quick learner of new platforms and programs.
- You either have (or can get) CA Responsible Beverage Service & Food Handler certifications within 30 days.
- You bring references who will tell us about your work ethic and your heart.
- You see hospitality as an act of generosity—never just a job.
- You’re community-minded, outgoing, and energized by meeting new people.
- You spot the little things and take action; standing still isn’t your style.
- You love wine and want to share that love, whether with a first-timer or a seasoned collector.
- 3–5 shifts per week (evenings/weekends included)
- 6–8 hours per shift
- Starting pay: $21+/hr (higher for advanced wine certs)
- Tips (20% service charge on dine-in)
- Bi-annual reviews, staff tastings, winery visits, and ongoing education
