Job Title

Clinical Research Coordinator - Hypoxia Lab

Job Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) coordinates pre-clinical testing of medical monitors that non-invasively read oxygen levels in blood or tissues, under the supervision of the PIs and guidance from the Senior Clinical Research Coordinator. Examples of monitors include pulse oximeters used in patient care. The UCSF Hypoxia Lab tests pulse oximeters for accuracy to support FDA approval. Accuracy testing involves desaturating subjects to hypoxia plateaus, drawing arterial blood samples at each plateau, and comparing blood oxygen saturation to the test oximeter readings.

The CRC will recruit adult subjects for pulse oximetry testing, collect blood samples during trials (after phlebotomy by a physician), and help keep the lab stocked with samples. Under general supervision, the CRC performs duties at the fully operational journey level to support and coordinate the clinical study. Training may be provided to prepare for conduct of the study.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with subject recruitment (posting materials, advertising, etc.)
  • Coordinate scheduling of studies with sponsors
  • Transcribe data from clinical machines to electronic records
  • Enter data into computerized sources
  • Record physiologic measurements (vital signs, ECG) as taken by the supervisor
  • Obtain consent for study
  • Handle and analyze blood samples
