Position: Life Enrichment Coordinator (On-Call)

Overview

The Life Enrichment Coordinator (LEC) plans and leads person-centered programs designed to enhance the emotional, social, and recreational well-being of residents in assisted living and memory care settings. This role fosters an engaging, inclusive environment through group, one-on-one, and self-directed activities, while supporting residents’ individuality, creativity, and overall quality of life. The Life Enrichment Coordinator also contributes to interdisciplinary collaboration, documentation, and volunteer engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic opportunities for self-expression for residents at all stages of memory loss using a variety of activity modalities.
  • Facilitate programs that encourage social interaction, reduce isolation and boredom, and minimize behaviors associated with dementia.
  • Create a positive, caring, and stimulating environment that respects the diverse personalities, cultures, and backgrounds of residents.
  • Motivate residents to actively participate in life enrichment programs to support quality of life and cognitive functioning.
  • Encourage participation from families, volunteers, and care team members as appropriate.
  • Adapt activities to meet the individual needs, abilities, and preferences of residents and their families.
  • Provide one-on-one engagement for residents who are unable or unwilling to participate in group activities.
  • Support residents and families by addressing psychosocial needs and providing emotional support during periods of decline or transition.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner, including attendance records, care plans, activity notes, and mandated reports.
  • Collaborate closely with care staff and life enrichment team members to promote teamwork, quality outcomes, and meaningful programming.
  • Mentor and support student interns and volunteers involved in activities and programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy, psychology, social work, healthcare, recreation administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with older adults in group or residential care settings preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and group facilitation skills.
  • Creative, adaptable, self-motivated, and responsive to resident and community needs.
  • Sensitivity to the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of aging adults.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural, religious, and social backgrounds.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry at least 25 pounds.
    • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods.
    • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
    • Good fine motor skills, visual acuity, and auditory acuity.
    • Ability to safely transport residents in wheelchairs over extended periods without fatigue.
