RN Float Hem/Onc Outpatient Clinics Job Summary
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
The Outpatient Oncology Clinical Nurse II serves in a leadership role and delivers direct patient care to adults receiving immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and clinical trial therapies, while coordinating treatment planning, education, and triage for patients with new or suspected cancer diagnoses across solid tumor, hematology, and hereditary cancer populations. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education.
At this operational level, the nurse proactively embraces the Oncology Nursing Society/Standards of Oncology Nursing practice to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization.

Department DescriptionThe UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas.
The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research.

- Minimum of (5) years of recent RN medical oncology nursing experience, including the past year.
- Minimum One (1) year of ambulatory oncology clinic experience in the last two years.
- Minimum One (1) year of hematology experience in the last 5 years.
- Minimum One (1) year of reproductive women's health experience in the last 5 years.
- Possesses the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- OCN Certification or other relevant specialty certification
- Infusion and Transfusion Areas Only:
Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification prior to hire - Experience working with clinical trials, investigational therapies and research workflows
Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
