The Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is a non‑profit, multi‑site community health organization offering comprehensive health services in the Mission and Excelsior Districts of San Francisco. The center offers primary health care services, adult medicine, pediatrics, family planning, OB/GYN, HIV and homeless services. We advocate for health equity and deliver innovative, high‑quality services responsive to the neighborhoods and diverse communities we serve.

We are looking for qualified candidates for our Senior Medical Assistant, Clinical Vaccine and Medication Coordinator role. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Operations and is a Full Time, Non‑Exempt role with an hourly pay of $30.36.

Primary Objective

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Operations, the Senior Medical Assistant, Clinical Vaccine and Medication Coordinator serves as a lead clinical resource for Medical Assistants while also coordinating vaccination operations across multiple clinic sites. This role balances hands‑on Medical Assistant duties, staff support, and workflow leadership with responsibility for vaccine integrity, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior or lead Medical Assistant supporting daily clinic operations, modeling best practices, maintaining competency in all core Medical Assistant duties, and serving as a float Medical Assistant as needed.
  • Perform standard Medical Assistant responsibilities including patient intake, vital signs, vaccine administration within scope of practice, documentation, patient rooming, and clinical support. Provide informal leadership and support to Medical Assistants through training, coaching, workflow standardization, and troubleshooting of clinical processes.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Pharmacy, and Clinical Operations leadership to support efficient, compliant clinic workflows.
  • Coordinate and ensure compliance with all vaccination programs, including the Vaccines for Children Program, Vaccines for Adults Program, San Francisco Department of Public Health Influenza Program, San Francisco Department of Public Health Hepatitis Program, the California Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination Program, and private vaccine purchasing programs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for public health departments, vaccine suppliers, and external partners. Oversee proper storage, handling, transport, and receipt of vaccines and implement emergency response plans when needed.
  • Monitor, document, and report temperature excursions, storage issues, and compliance concerns. Maintain accurate inventory, temperature, and compliance logs.
  • Track inventory levels, rotate stock, place vaccine orders, and ensure timely removal and disposal of expired vaccines.
  • Partner with leadership to identify cost‑effective vaccine purchasing options and monitor potential public vaccine funding opportunities.
  • Manage California Immunization Registry operations, including electronic health record interface support, user access management, and staff training.
  • Oversee accurate vaccine documentation within Epic, the organization’s electronic health record system.
  • Support annual influenza vaccination clinics, vaccine trainings, performance reporting, and audit preparation.
  • Train and maintain competency of designated backup vaccine coordinators.
  • Coordinate vaccine operations during public health emergencies or pandemics.
  • Report vaccine‑related errors and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Support clinic‑based medication management in collaboration with Pharmacy and Clinical teams, including medication ordering, storage, documentation, inventory monitoring, audits, recalls, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure medication storage areas meet regulatory and safety standards and participate in medication‑related quality improvement activities.
  • Participate in quality improvement meetings, audits, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Supervisor.
