Job Summary
The Staff Research Associate I/II (NEX) will support the Principal Investigator in understanding how the neonatal liver maintains a regulatory environment. The role includes assistance with ordering, coordinating lab maintenance duties, working closely with Dr. Nijagal to maintain lab protocols, and performing molecular biology and immunology techniques, tissue culture, animal care, and small animal surgery. This position is essential to expand scientific efforts studying regulatory immune responses in the liver and the interplay between epithelial damage and hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell function.
The lab recently received a $3.7 million NIH award and needs additional personnel.
The UCSF Department of Surgery focuses on leadership development, high‑quality clinical care, and scientific advancement. The department’s Chair’s Office manages a large team of faculty, trainees, and staff across the Bay Area.
Required Qualifications- BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Meticulous, organized lab bench skills.
- Excellent pipetting skills.
- Ability to perform administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and organizing.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Cell and tissue culture experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience with DNA, RNA, protein extraction, and Western blotting.
- Experience with animal models.
