Job Summary

The Hospital Assistant III supports the delivery of care to patients in multiple Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. The role assists in personal care, nursing procedures, patient care, laboratory procedures, and learns to support all Cancer Center specialty practices while adhering to Telephone and House Standards.

The assistant collaborates with the Administrative Nurse Manager, MA Supervisor, and Clinical Nursing Staff to support cost centers across multiple campuses and satellite offices. Duties include performing assigned patient care and laboratory procedures, learning specialty practices, and ensuring positive care outcomes.

• Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent training and experience.
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations.

• One year’s experience as a Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.
• Experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, patient financial services, or medical assistance.
• Degree from an accredited medical assisting school.
• Bi‑lingual or multi‑lingual capability (Spanish, Cantonese, Russian).
• Current State of California Phlebotomy Certification (CPT1).

• Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.

Hourly rate: $32.86 – $41.01. Salary range is determined by experience, internal equity, and union agreements, when applicable.
