Position: Genetic Counselor 2 or 3
The UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center provides multidisciplinary medical and supportive care to patients and their families with Cancer. The role of the genetic counselor is to work closely with the medical providers in the evaluation of patients and families at high risk for hereditary cancer. The position participates in both research and teaching objectives and is required to track data and report outcomes accordingly.

The position participates and may also lead grant‑writing and performance improvement initiatives. A genetic counselor III candidate will have experience co‑managing a clinical sub‑service of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program and/or at least 5 years of experience in cancer genetics and the demonstrated ability to function independently.

The mission of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program is to identify patients with hereditary forms of cancer in order to provide personalized care and planning for their long‑term health and well‑being. The Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program is a well‑est clinical and research program consisting of a medical geneticist, family nurse practitioner, 15 genetic counselors, 6 genetic counseling assistants, 2 practice coordinators, database manager, and administrative supervisor.

The team has participated in much of the groundbreaking research in hereditary cancer. This position is located at both the Mount Zion campus and Mission Bay campus. This position includes travel to Bay Area satellite locations and affiliate hospitals to provide genetic counseling with distances as far as 50 miles.

Classification of Genetic Counselor 2 or 3 will be determined based upon the qualifications of the selected candidate.

UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30‑60 days and must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification  positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $56.46 - $94.73 (Hourly Rate).
