Job Summary

The Research Analyst will work (50%) on the HOPE HOME Policing Study, a longitudinal cohort study funded by the National Institute on Aging. The study examines the prevalence and severity of police enforcement encounters throughout the life course and the impact of these encounters on health outcomes among homeless older adults aged 50 and over. This position requires bilingual proficiency in both Spanish and English, and is a 50% appointment with the expectation to be in the office one day a week or as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct structured and semi-structured interviews in person and over the telephone with participants in English and Spanish.

• Conduct ethnographic observations in the field.

• Code qualitative interview transcripts.

• Analyze data to identify themes and patterns.

• Manage and extract data through REDCap and similar data capture instruments with support from Senior Analysts.

• Conduct weekly data cleaning activities.

• Keep study databases updated.

• Call participants and send reminder letters to maintain retention rates.

• Conduct field tracking to locate participants.

• Manage study petty cash for participant payments.

Work Schedule

The position will require a flexible and hybrid work schedule. The study office is located at an off-site location in Oakland, California. The employee will be required to work on-site at least once a week, with additional onsite days as needed to accommodate project requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $69,000 - $80,000 (Annual Rate). Employee benefits, including health, vision, dental, and retirement plans, are available to all eligible UCSF employees.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

• Fluency in Spanish – reading, speaking, and writing.

• Valid California driver’s license.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

• Strong skills to interpret and communicate complex data in a clear and concise manner.

• Experience working with populations living in poverty and health disparities.

• Willingness and comfort to conduct data collection in homeless encampments, shelters, and community settings.

• Ability to drive to participant locations.

• Proficiency with personal computer software (Word, Excel, Access) and data capture programs.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to follow strict study and office procedures and protocols.

• Ability to collect, record, and analyze data accurately.

• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and coordinate work with others.

• Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in a work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Public Health, Policy, or related field.

• Experience conducting semi‑structured interviews.

• Experience coding interviews using Dedoose or similar software.

• Experience using REDCap.

• Experience conducting structured interviews.

License / Certification

• Valid California driver’s license.
