Job Summary
The UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center provides multidisciplinary medical and supportive care to patients and their families with cancer. The role of the genetic counselor is to work closely with medical providers in the evaluation of patients and families at high risk for hereditary cancer. The position participates in both research and teaching objectives and is required to track data and report outcomes accordingly.
The position participates and may also lead grant‑writing and performance improvement initiatives.

The mission of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program is to identify patients with hereditary forms of cancer in order to provide personalized care and planning for their long‑term health and well‑being. The program consists of a medical director, 15+ genetic counselors, medical geneticists, 2 nurse practitioners, 5+ genetic counseling assistants, 4 practice coordinators, database manager, project coordinator, and administrative supervisor.
The position is located at both the Mount Zion campus and Mission Bay campus and may include travel to Bay Area satellite locations and affiliate hospitals to provide genetic counseling up to 50 miles away.
Credentialing and ApprovalAll Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) must be credentialed through the Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO). Credentialing and approval of Standardized Procedures takes 30–60 days and must be completed prior to the first day of employment.
Compensation and BenefitsHourly Rate: $70.59

- Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics
- Master’s Degree in clinical genetic counseling
- Ability to function independently
- Oncology background preferred
- At least 1–2 years of clinical experience
- Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics
- California Genetic Counseling license
