Position Summary

The Syringe Access Services (SAS) Coordinator for GLIDE’s Syringe Access Services and Disposal Program ensures smooth operation of the program that provides clients with sterile supplies and equipment for people who inject drugs (PWIDs). The SAS Coordinator will empower and educate clients to make informed decisions regarding their utilization of appropriate services and resources. This position supports the SAS Program Manager with logistical operations, including inventory management, supply ordering, data input, contract reporting, staff and volunteer scheduling, and training.

The job involves outreach and direct client contact with diverse, high‑risk individuals, many of whom are active substance users, and involves some evening work, as well as substantial community outreach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Order and organize all SAS supplies and maintain inventory and receipts of delivery.
  • Routinely monitor supply levels and proactively manage inventory to ensure program demands are met.
  • Maintain organized and current information and data related to target population venues, outreach contacts, and community resource listings and materials (local, national, and international).
  • Maintain the Program’s database and complete all data collection and monthly reports.
  • Assist with SAS training and supporting volunteers and Peer Educators.
  • Coordinate GLIDE’s DOPE Program (Drug Overdose Prevention Education) and Narcan distribution to prevent opioid overdose.
  • Provide support with referring clients to HIV/Hep C testing, counseling, and prevention education, including safer sex, and safer injection drug use education for PWIDs.
  • Distribute condoms, dams, lubrication, hygiene kits, and other harm‑reduction/prevention materials and supplies.
  • Assist with evaluation activities and provide programmatic support during monitoring periods.
  • Supporting the Program Manager, you will carry out community outreach activities and provide group education and organizational presentations (at various community engagement events).
  • Assist with coordinating Special Events to promote testing, linkages to care, health and wellness, prevention education, etc. Assist with preparing outreach materials.
  • Promote and recruit clients for syringe access services as well as HIV/Hep

    C.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Exceptionally strong communication skills, including the ability to gain confidence and obtain personal and confidential data across ethnic and cultural lines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with target groups, particularly with homeless populations.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning, communicating, and working respectfully with a diverse group of people from multiple cultures and beliefs.
  • Ability to maintain an objective attitude and to exercise sound judgment in the application of services.
  • Ability to plan and implement SAS objectives and activities, collect data, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work professionally and ethically, including ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Compliance with HIPAA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and show appropriate decision‑making while working to meet the demands and needs of a client‑centered environment.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques, principles of counseling and health education, basic social needs, problems, attitudes and behavioral patterns, basic principles of health promotion, disease prevention, and preventive health care.
