Job Summary
The Clinical Research Coordinator will independently execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols, as directed by the Clinical Research Supervisor and/or Principal Investigator (PI). The role involves coordinating data collection and operations of multiple concurrent clinical research studies under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF, and regulating agency policies.
ResponsibilitiesIncumbent’s duties include, but are not limited to: support the management and coordination of multiple clinical research studies; serve as intermediary between services and departments while overseeing data and specimen management; manage and report on study results; create, clean, update, and manage databases and comprehensive datasets and reports; coordinate staff work schedules; assist with training of Assistant CRCs; assist the Clinical Research Supervisor and/or PI with oversight of other research staff;
manage Investigator’s protocols in the Committee on Human Research online system, including renewals and modifications of protocol applications and implementation of new studies; participate in the review and writing of protocols to secure Institutional Review Board approval within University compliance; help assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies; oversee study data integrity; implement and maintain periodic quality control procedures; interface with departments to obtain UCSF approval prior to study initiation;
maintain all regulatory documents; report study progress to investigators; participate in internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols; and perform other duties as assigned.
Salary range: $34.32 - $55.19 (Hourly Rate). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Placement within the salary range depends on work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement follows collective bargaining agreement rules.

Division of GastroenterologyResearch in gastrointestinal and liver diseases is active in the UCSF Division of Gastroenterology (GI). The division has a longstanding reputation for excellence in hepatology research and a growing investigative program in luminal gastroenterology. Faculty contribute to discovery in several areas, ranging from the identification of basic mechanisms of GI disease, to improving outcomes following liver transplantation, to optimizing GI care in resource-poor settings.
The division also provides comprehensive training in GI research through postdoctoral programs.
- HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills required.
- Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment working with a diverse subject population.
- Ability to work well independently, complete projects timely, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
- Experience writing scientific correspondence.
- Knowledge of clinical research processes including medical chart reviews.
- Excellent writing, editing, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with PC computer systems and software skills (MS Word, Excel, Filemaker Pro).
- Must be detail oriented, self‑motivated and able to meet deadlines for concurrent projects.
- BA/BS in a related field.
- At least two years of experience working with patients.
- Statistics and data analysis experience.
- Fluency in HDR usage of Committee of Human Research (CHR) online iMEDRIS system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols.
- Understanding of patient population to create rapport and relationships, while also giving insight into realistic and appropriate patient participation.
- Experience with electronic medical records.
