Apply now for the Executive Underwriter, Contract Surety role with Zurich’s Large Contract West Region Surety Team. Located across the 13 Western States, this market-facing position is ideally based in San Francisco, but we’re open to talent located anywhere in the West Region. This is a highly technical role that requires experience with Surety lines of business.

• Lead with impact by managing complex large accounts
• Travel with purpose, approximately 20% across the region
• Grow your network working with top-tier agents and brokers
• Make decisions that matter with clear accountability and broad authority
• Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business for large contract surety
• Navigate complex assignments with confidence and autonomy
• Build and maintain strategic broker and agency relationships
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements

This market-facing role is based in San Francisco, with openness to talent located anywhere in the West Region. You will manage and expand a portfolio of domestic and international large accounts while driving business development and retention.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing areas, finance, accounting or banking, OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing areas, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area AND
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience meeting time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience working in a team environment

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7+ years of experience in the underwriting, market-facing area, finance, accounting, banking, OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5+ years of experience in the underwriting, market-facing area, finance, accounting or banking, OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area AND
• Experience with Microsoft Office

• College Degree Highly preferred
• Strong finance and accounting background
• Advanced knowledge and practice of surety bonds
• Established broker relationships
• Ability to interact with the C-suite
• Ability to analyze and articulate complex credit assessments, trends, business strategies and customer attributes
• Ability to present fact-based conclusions and recommendations
• Experience managing and growing a profitable portfolio
• Negotiation experience with large, international and national organizations
• Strong team-building and organizational skills

Your pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The combined salary range for this position is $ - $. The proposed salary ranges are:
Executive Underwriter: $ - $ (with 30% Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility) AVP, Underwriter Director: $ - $ (with 20% Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility).
