FCB invests in a variety of Community Development investment funds through several external syndicators for Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Community Benefits Plan (CBP) purposes. The position is responsible for originating, underwriting, and closing New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) and other fund investments with multiple syndicator partners, collaborating with portfolio management on underperforming projects, and mentoring junior level staff. This is a hybrid role to be based in Raleigh, NC, San Francisco, CA, or Boston, MA with the expectation that work time will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.
Responsibilities- Originations and Fund Closings – Leads and coordinates originations, underwriting, internal credit and other approvals (CRA, Tax, Treasury) and closings for NMTC investments with multiple syndicator partners, including coordination with counsel on legal review of fund documents, collaborating with debt partners on joint debt + equity opportunities, and tracking investment status on the equity pipeline. Underwrites and closes other CRA eligible investment products to support First Citizens’ regulatory need.
- Portfolio Management Collaboration – Works with equity portfolio management on monitoring and restructuring or improvement plans for higher‑risk rated projects, and updates annual reviews of syndicator partners as part of the credit approval process.
- Program Development – Provides meaningful input on New Market Tax Credit procedures and best practices, and assists in developing originations and portfolio management strategies for the product line.
- Mentoring – Mentors junior level staff in underwriting and closing NMTC fund investments, leading internal trainings on the NMTC program.
- Other duties – Participates in meetings, trainings (including Bank required compliance courses) and other duties or special projects as assigned by senior leadership and management.
- Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in Equity Investments Underwriting and Closing OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in Equity Investments Underwriting and Closing.
- 5-10 years of New Markets Tax Credit experience.
If hired in California, the base pay for this position is generally between $120,955 to $161,273. If hired in Massachusetts, the base pay is generally between $115,909 to $154,545. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location and other non‑discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
