Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is seeking an experienced, team-oriented professional to manage the finance function for the organization. CRS is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to promote policy and market-based solutions to advance sustainable energy in the United States and internationally. This position will play a key role in supporting the growth and maturation of the Finance function as CRS continues to scale.

Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Finance will manage all aspects of the finance function - finance operations (A/P, A/R), accounting, treasury and financial planning and analysis. This position will also work in partnership with the CEO and General Counsel to provide financial inputs in organizational risk, systems, and processes.

This is a part time (60%), exempt position, with potential to convert to full time.

The Director of Finance position is based in CRS’s San Francisco office. This position is not remote and requires in-person presence in accordance with CRS’s work schedule policies. Currently CRS maintains a hybrid work schedule, but that could change based on the needs of the organization and other factors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance will be responsible for CRS’s Finance function and manage employees and contractors engaged in the function. This is a hands-on role, directly responsible for the overall financial management of the organization

Specific responsibilities include:

Accounting and Finance Operations

  • Manage and oversee improvements to CRS’s cost and financial accounting systems
  • Manage and drive improvements in financial operations - accounts payables and receivables, bank reconciliations, journal entries, payroll, etc.
  • Coordinate all audit and tax/IRS Form 990 activities, including coordination of the CRS Board Audit Committee
  • Own and supervise the use of applications including ERP, expense and payment platforms, etc.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Oversee, review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for the Board of Directors and CEO
  • Oversee preparation of monthly budget reports for each program cost center
  • Work collaboratively with Program Directors to drive the financial portion of the annual 3-year planning process
  • In coordination with the CEO and Program Directors, oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for the organization and each major program/expense area

Treasury

  • With the CEO and consistent with Board policy, manage CRS’s financial reserves.
  • Ensure timely cash inflows and outflows and monitor cash balances.
  • Maintain relationships with banking and payment platform partners.

Role includes supervision of one FTE as well as external contractors and consultants.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Director of Finance will have at least eight years of directly relevant professional experience, including managing the finances of a growing organization (preference given to nonprofit experience). They will have experience creating and driving the analytic framework for planning and managing organizational change. Successful candidates will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management, Accounting or Finance
  • Experience in corporate/nonprofit accounting
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting
  • Experience with legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Proven effectiveness leading and managing finance and accounting professionals/contractors
  • Experience working collaboratively with leadership in HR, technology, legal and administrative organization functions.
  • Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT providers to develop and implement new processes and systems that increase efficiency and improve services
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly detail-oriented
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to CRS’s mission
COMPENSATION

The Director of Finance position will be an exempt position with a target salary range of $125,000 - $175,000 (full time) depending on experience level.
