Manager, SALT Indirect Tax

Join KPMG US as a Manager in the State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. You will work with a dynamic team and high‑profile clients to understand, analyze, and respond to complex business opportunities and challenges in multi‑state tax, ensuring excellent client service and quality deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent client service to multi‑state companies with state and local tax (SALT) issues including compliance, advisory services, planning, technology, and controversies.
  • Review information presented on state sales and use tax returns before, during, and after preparation.
  • Support multi‑state companies with state and local tax controversies, preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests.
  • Research and draft technical memoranda regarding SALT questions.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members.
  • Assist with business development, management, and delivery of SALT services and oversee large client project engagements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum five years of recent experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on multi‑state tax issues.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Licensed CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MST (master's in taxation) or the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) designation for non‑CPA eligible candidates; obtain one of the approved designations within one year of hire if not currently holding one.
  • Ability to develop business and foster client relationships.
  • Capability and desire to perform in a high‑energy team environment.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills.

California salary range: $90,800 – $189,300.
