Overview
Our client, a global aviation finance and asset management firm, is seeking a Deputy Director of Tax to support its rapidly evolving tax organization.
LocationThis role is based in San Francisco, CA, and will follow a hybrid schedule (2 days per week onsite).
Job DescriptionThis is a highly visible role that combines hands-on technical tax execution with strategic advisory responsibilities across a complex international business. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in a lean, high-ownership environment and enjoys navigating sophisticated partnership, corporate, and cross-border tax issues.
Responsibilities- Manage tax structuring, planning, and compliance for global aviation finance and partnership tax structures, including complex arrangements, tax-efficient income allocation, basis adjustments, and planning for partnerships.
- Develop, implement, and monitor tax strategies to minimize tax liability.
- Oversee personnel and third-party service providers preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings (FATCA, FBAR, VAT, GST, partnership and corporate domestic and international returns).
- Advise internal business partners on tax matters related to purchase, sale, finance, and leasing transactions.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Legal, Capital Markets, and Operations teams on structuring and planning solutions, balancing risk management with tax benefits.
- Consult on tax accounting, transaction calculations, partner economics, tax distributions, and other events throughout the transaction lifecycle.
- Manage correspondence with tax authorities regarding notices and inquiries.
- Review tax provision calculations across multiple global jurisdictions.
- Stay current on tax law and regulatory changes and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- 10+ years of progressive U.S. and international tax experience, ideally within public accounting and/or financial asset-based industries.
- Deep technical knowledge of partnership and corporate tax matters, including international structures and private investment vehicles.
- Proven experience managing complex cross-border tax compliance and planning.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to interact across functions and manage internal staff and external advisors.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics; CPA or Master’s in Taxation preferred.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors, including but not limited to: the individual’s skill sets, experience, and training; licensure and certifications; office location and other geographic considerations; other business and organizational needs. The salary range will be disclosed where required by local law. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company’s 401(k) retirement plan.
