The Climate Finance Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing an existing and growing loan portfolio of commercial solar, battery storage, energy efficiency, and other climate related project finance credits in collaboration with the SVP of Climate Lending. Portfolio management duties include reviewing project status reports, coordinating disbursement of loan funds, underwriting loan modifications and renewals, coordinating receipt and evaluating financial information, covenant tracking and compliance monitoring.

S/he will work directly with relationship managers, borrowers, underwriters, internal and external legal counsel, loan servicing, credit risk management and third-party vendors to generate credit authorizations (i.e., loan modifications, risk rating changes), memos, and periodic credit reviews for internal approval and documentation. The position requires a proactive banker with strong credit ability, excellent communication skills, adroit customer relationship management skills, as well as the ability to effectively prioritize multiple requests and meet tight deadlines.

Job Functions
  • Provide ongoing daily management of assigned climate loan relationships within bank policy and customer service standards.
  • Request information from borrowers when due, analyze status reports and financial statements, structure and underwrite loan modifications and renewals.
  • Review financial models, collateral audits and appraisals and make recommendations as needed in collaboration with commercial bankers.
  • Prepare and present credit authorizations for approval following bank policy guidelines.
  • Work directly with bank’s counsel to review loan documentation for borrower to execute.
  • Work with third party vendors, including independent engineering firms, O&M contractors and others as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively about bank products to customers.
  • Address issues and provide solutions for existing borrowers.
  • Review financial statements on an ongoing basis for covenant compliance.
  • Organize and maintain credit files.
  • Prepare and present reports for internal meetings (i.e., loan quality meetings).
  • Prepare responses for information requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Identify and report problem accounts in a timely manner.
  • Monitor changes in borrower risk and recommend appropriate upgrades/downgrades.

  • Recommend ways to improve the organization.
  • Proactively manage loan relationships by setting appropriate client expectation and meeting deadlines.
  • Proactively keep management, commercial bankers and other team members informed on the progress with client requests and other deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as directed, including but not limited to underwriting new loan originations.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting or equivalent commercial credit experience
  • 2-4 years prior relevant experience in C&I solar energy lending, project finance, and/or tax equity investments preferred.
  • Formal credit training and minimum of two (2) years of underwriting/portfolio management within a commercial banking lending environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of loan structures and treasury products
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and understand critical lending/financial ratios.
  • Sufficient knowledge of Federal and State banking regulations (including but not limited to BSA, OFAC, Reg B, Reg O, Reg Z, and Reg BB) and Bank Policies pertinent to performance of duties to avoid regulatory violations.
  • Highly proficient in MS excel, including financial analysis and modeling.
  • Communication: speaks clearly and effectively, is thoughtful, persuasive; writes clearly and informatively; varies writing style to meet client needs
  • Business acumen: understands business implications of decisions; displays orientation to profitability; demonstrates knowledge of market and competition; aligns work with strategic goals and performance objectives.
