Fund Controller - Hedge Funds - San Francisco, CA

We are currently seeking candidates for a Fund Controller position with an elite investment management firm located in San Francisco, CA (REMOTE). The Fund Controller will manage centralized reporting functions and monthly NAV processes across multiple hedge funds. This role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners, including fund administrators, prime brokers, and auditors. The ideal candidate will bring 3–5+ years of experience in financial reporting, financial statement preparation, and audit support within a hedge fund, private equity, or other alternative investment environment.

This is a 3-month contract position that will pay $60-80/hr (depending on experience) within a 40-hour work week. This position is 100% remote.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the monthly NAV process for multiple hedge funds, including the review and approval of administrator-calculated NAVs.
  • Perform a variety of recurring activities such as tax accounting, valuation oversight, client reporting, and management reporting.
  • Manage investor cash flow and transfer agency processes.
  • Partner with internal teams such as Business, Investor Relations, and Compliance to provide information, respond to inquiries, and conduct ad hoc analyses related to fund or investor activity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Lead and support projects related to hedge fund operations, accounting systems, and process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in public accounting, alternative investments, private equity, or fund administration.
  • Progress toward CPA, CFA, CAIA, or MBA is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of partnership accounting (management fees, carried interest, clawbacks), third-party distribution, hybrid or side pocket fund structures, and currency hedging.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Access; familiarity or interest in Alteryx, SQL, or Tableau is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and a client service mindset.
