Community Lending Officer San Francisco California - Hybrid

The Community Mortgage Lending Officer is an entry level position responsible for driving mortgage sales and client relationships through engagement with community clients, diverse real estate agents, and affordable housing non‑profit partners in coordination with the Consumer Product Sales team. The role is directly responsible for the sale of a specific product or product set directly to clients.

Responsibilities
  • Consult with customers about their financial situation, objectives, and lending needs to help them achieve home ownership goals.
  • Collect and analyze financial information (income, assets, debts, cash flow, credit history) and assess qualification for lending solutions.
  • Make recommendations on appropriate lending solutions and advise on risks, benefits, and consequences.
  • Promote Citi’s brand and financial services to real estate agencies, builders, referral sources, and customers.
  • Visit customers outside Citi’s offices as needed based on clientele, geography, and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to support and grow customers.
  • Refer customers seeking non‑lending services to appropriate Citi professionals.
  • Partner with Operations to ensure seamless transfer of loan applications and acquire necessary information.
  • Co‑ordinate with Processors/Closers to ensure timely closing of loans.
  • Engage key referral relationships (realtors, CPAs, builders) to drive mortgage business.
  • Assess risk appropriately, ensuring compliance with laws, rules, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Introduce clients to segment partners (Bank, Wealth Management, Small Business, Cards, etc.) when relevant.
  • Stay updated on local marketplace trends, regulatory changes, and expand networks to better serve clients.
  • Attend a minimum of 2–3 events with diverse realtors and affordable‑housing nonprofits per month.
Qualifications
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Residential mortgage experience required.
  • 3+ years of previous mortgage sales experience required.
  • Established relationships with diverse realtor organizations and affordable‑housing nonprofits in the origin territory.
  • Experience with community loan products including LMI mortgage solutions, lender‑paid assistance programs, and third‑party assistance programs.
  • Established book of business.
  • FHA/VA and conventional loan experience preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
  • Ability to communicate required documents and information to customers.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing consumer lending (fair lending, privacy, RESPA).
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong relationship development and management skills.
  • Expertise in general lending products and overall mortgage industry.
  • Must register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and obtain a unique identifier before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities.
  • Originate a minimum of 3 loans per month with a minimum mix of 50% being either CRA‑eligible or within minority tracts.
