About Redwood Materials

Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling—keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2019, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

You will be an early member of a new engineering team, responsible for driving the electrical design, development, and integration of a new high-power electromechanical product line  this role, you will immediately lead a small team of engineers, guiding them through complex systems integration, test engineering, and power electronics design challenges and ensuring successful project execution. You will collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, and systems engineering teams.

As the product builds momentum, you will build and lead the electrical engineering team across high power (10‑100+kW) and low-power electronics, setting the foundation for scaling our product into high volume manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is highly self-driven, adaptable to a startup environment, and eager to take on both technical and leadership challenges. You’re a leader and a doer, excited about working in a dynamic, fast-paced setting, and want to shape the electrical engineering function within a new department at Redwood.

If necessary, we will adjust the job level to suit your experience and responsibilities.

Responsibilities will include:

• Lead and execute the electrical system design and development of a high-volume, high-power energy conversion product from concept to deployment, including electrical architecture, requirements authoring, system integration, signal-level electronics design, power electronics design, and integration with grid infrastructure.

• Design power conversion products, supervisory control modules and balance of system components, working closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions.

• Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of the overall product.

• Be a hands‑on engineering manager, accountable for project goals and timelines.

• Take a leadership role in recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high‑performance electrical engineering team.

• Stay up to date on industry advancements and best practices, ensuring that our designs are at the forefront of technology and compliant with relevant standards.

• Contribute to a collaborative, fast‑paced startup culture, where every team member plays a crucial role in achieving company milestones.

VDC, and 480

VAC) design.

Proven track record as a senior electrical engineer, with hands‑on design, prototyping, and launch experience in medium‑to‑high volume production (10,000 units/yr or higher).

• Able to perform detailed schematic capture in Altium or related CAD software.

• Able to supervise (and occasionally perform) detailed layout of high‑power electronics PCBs in Altium or related CAD software.

• Experience in the development of tools, infrastructure and design practices for a growing team.

• Strong leadership and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with all levels of the organization and presenting to internal and external executives.
