Health Sensing PD - Mechanical Engineer

The Health Sensing Product Design team is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to build great experiences and bring Apple products to life. We develop sensors that change the way people interact with their technology.

You will play a key role in specifying, developing, characterizing, and validating the mechanical design of health sensing systems. You should be familiar with product manufacturing technologies related to sensors.

You will lead the end-to-end design, development, and validation of health sensing technology into Apple’s portfolio of products. You will work with our talented multidisciplinary team to generate and validate design concepts, and as the mechanical expert you will be responsible for engineering analysis and documentation for your piece of the project.

• Identifying design tradeoffs and risks to choose viable paths forward.
• Applying good experimental design and the scientific method to reduce design risk early.
• Running tolerance studies to ensure designs are feasible over manufacturing tolerances.
• Designing and building prototypes to evaluate sensor concepts and validate FEA assumptions.
• Developing comprehensive validation strategies for hardware performance, including custom tester design.
• Driving processes to meet Apple’s high performance and cosmetic standards.
• Supporting external manufacturing vendors with process development and root cause analysis for issues found during testing, including international travel between 15% and 25%.

• 3D CAD experience and proficiency in GD&T and tolerance analyses required
• Familiarity with FEA techniques and software packages required, basic FEA proficiency preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to craft clear engineering documentation (2D drawings, standard operating procedures, ECOs) and effectively collaborate with diverse team members and external vendors to define and achieve project goals.
• BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience

• 4+ years of hands‑on, collaborative experience designing for a production environment. High volume, consumer electronics, or health/optical sensing experience is a plus.
• Practical experience with optical modules, thermal design, health sensors, packaging techniques, and optoelectronic components
• Experience with JMP, MATLAB, scripting and data analysis are a plus
• MSME, PhD preferred

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
