WSP is seeking a Vice President, Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic Property & Buildings team based out of our San Francisco, CA office. Provide local and regional support leadership to our local team, ensuring mechanical engineering subject matter expertise, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

You will be responsible for SME innovation and administration, ensuring corporate compliance with all local, state, and federal engineering, construction, and safety regulations, and providing strategic and consistent direction to address current and future challenges in a large‑scale, multi‑faceted organization.

Your Impact
  • Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of mechanical engineering discipline’s project and program involvement within the organization for Sacramento area projects.
  • Lead complex and large‑scale mechanical engineering projects, ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when; prepare and oversee relevant project budgets; monitor internal and external events, track hours and expenses, and ensure satisfactory performance and profitability while supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Assist the current team in pursuing and developing business and the successful execution of work for current and potential project work within the area.
  • Assist with technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Assist in the overall long‑term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of MEP Engineering work for WSP in the Sacramento area, focusing on technical project opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, strategic consulting, and program/construction management).
  • Coordinate, review, and approve mechanical design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Apply high‑level mechanical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements across various project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Plan and incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and design requirements that account for safety and functionality of end‑users, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Be involved from project inception to completion in the management of design and construction of mechanical systems.
  • Oversee and monitor cross‑functional teams of engineers to execute project work on mid‑level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, technical calculations, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross‑sections, and other illustrations for interpretation or presentation of complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research findings, concepts, and recommendations to address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
  • Manage client relationships and provide key technical input on pursuit efforts.
  • Develop relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related degree.
  • 12+ years of post‑education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical design, particularly in the healthcare industry; experience in multiple market sectors, including lab design and higher education projects, is preferred.
