WSP is currently searching for a full‑time Assistant Resident Engineer to support projects in the Antioch, California office and surrounding regions including the San Francisco Bay Area, greater Sacramento area, and Central Valley.
Responsibilities- Knowledgeable of various client construction specifications and contract management.
- Supervise, develop, and train field staff and other construction support staff assigned to a project.
- Conduct inspections and reviews of work in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Perform field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
- Verify and review project documentation for acceptance including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost‑reduction proposals, traffic control modifications, and others.
- Act as primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors.
- Manage the construction management team, including subcontractors.
- Review and make recommendations for contractors’ project schedules and non‑conforming work.
- Attend and may lead construction meetings with clients and contractors.
- Meet with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering‑related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g., Caltrans).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience in local municipalities and/or Caltrans.
- Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields.
- Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
- Familiarity with e‑Builder, MS Office, MS Project, and other PC software used on design and construction projects.
- Bridge and highway construction inspection experience.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $118,000 – $175,230. WSP reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to protected categories.
