Role description

Our growing team in California is seeking an experienced Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join our California Water Business. In this role you will collaborate within a strong, supportive team environment to deliver innovative solutions for municipal and private sector clients. You will bring your expertise to a variety of project types, ranging from large municipal water/wastewater treatment facility upgrades to local system upgrades and feasibility studies.

accountabilities

As a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer specializing in water and wastewater projects, you will lead innovative mechanical design and process integration for cutting‑edge treatment facilities, reservoirs, and pumping or lift stations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Develop comprehensive construction documents and detailed specifications for critical systems such as pumps, valves, gates, and other mechanical components.
  • Complete in‑depth calculations, perform equipment sizing, evaluate design options, and prepare technical memoranda to document rationale and recommendations.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated design approach, and support project management activities such as budget and schedule tracking.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, prepare compelling proposals, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring rigorous quality‑control reviews.
Key Skills and Attributes

Proficient in mechanical design standards and experience in design bid‑build or alternative delivery projects; strong working knowledge of CAD and BIM; proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; strong work ethic and ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and take direction.

Qualifications & experience

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and 10 years of relevant experience in process mechanical engineering for water and wastewater facilities.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of California.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical or Civil P.E. preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in process mechanical engineering for water and wastewater facilities.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $109,000 – $185,000. Actual salaries vary by experience, education, budget, and location.
