The Role

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer in the Multiply Labs team, you will apply your engineering expertise and technical leadership to design complex automated machinery involved in the manufacturing of novel pharmaceutical products. You’ll work with a cross-functional hardware and software team on designing and building the current and next generations of Multiply Labs’ robotic systems. This includes selecting robotic equipment, setting high-level design goals, building prototypes, and taking designs to production.

The role requires applying first-principles engineering to optimize designs, strong documentation, and the ability to drive decisions across major projects while coordinating with colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • High-level ownership of system design of machine and robotic systems
  • Lead concept ideation with strong fundamentals
  • Detailed CAD work
  • Investigation of applicable technologies and components
  • Prototyping, testing, and iterating designs
  • Generation of supporting design documentation
  • Transition oversight to production manufacturing for completed designs
  • Analysis of designs including deflections, tolerance stack-ups, load capacity, and material compatibility
  • Controls and actuator sizing, interfacing, integration, and testing may be included
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software and detailed drawings
  • Extensive mechanical design experience developing production-ready machines from concept
  • Problem-solving ability by breaking complex problems into tasks
  • Knowledge of mechanical components, metals, plastics, joining methods, fabrication, and finishing operations
  • Experience optimizing manufacturability using DFM/DFA principles
  • Experience transferring designs to external suppliers and contract manufacturers for production
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience designing and building automated production machinery
  • Industrial experience developing robot EOATs, work cell fixtures, or material handling systems
  • Working knowledge of GD&T standards
  • 6-8+ years of mechanical design engineering experience
Nice to Have
  • Experience with FDA and/or EMA regulated industries
  • Experience designing machine power distribution and automation-grade control cabinets
  • Proficiency with Onshape
  • Hands-on experience with machine shop and prototyping tools
