Job Summary

The College Coach acts as a dedicated mentor and strategic architect for students navigating the high school journey and the college admissions landscape. This role is focused on delivering high-touch, empathetic coaching to a personalized roster, ensuring every student has a clear, individualized roadmap to success. You are a subject matter expert and a core member of our practitioner-led team, responsible for translating complex institutional knowledge into actionable guidance.

Your mission is to provide a student-centered experience that balances academic ambition with social-emotional well-being, serving as a calm and authoritative presence for families throughout the admissions cycle.

  • Hours:

    Part-time:
    Meeting hours with families are flexible (primarily weekday afternoons/evenings and Sundays) to accommodate Central and Pacific time zones.
  • Lead a personalized roster of 10+ students, providing comprehensive mentorship through all phases of the college search and application process.
  • Manage the technical lifecycle of college applications, ensuring students meet all milestones for the Common App, University of Texas (Apply Texas) portal, and the University of California application.
  • Architect well-rounded college lists and extracurricular strategies that balance academic ambition with the student’s social-emotional well-being.
  • Orchestrate the strategic arc of college essays and personal statements to ensure alignment with the student's overall application narrative, acting as a high-level conductor who defines the scope while overseeing the 1-1 progress of assigned Essay Coaches.
  • Collaborate in regular Case Study sessions and peer-review circles, sharing institutional knowledge and providing feedback to colleagues to ensure high standards of care across the team.
  • Maintain proactive and detailed communication with families, serving as the primary point of contact and managing expectations through the stress points of the admissions cycle.

Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree required;
    Advanced degree in counseling or education preferred.
  • Experience:

    3+ years of direct experience in college consulting, admissions, or high school counseling, with a proven track record of student success.
  • Subject Matter Expertise:
    Deep familiarity with the California educational landscape, including specific knowledge of Bay Area and South Bay public/private high schools.
