Founded in San Francisco in 2010, Alta Vista School (AVS) is an independent K-8 school serving approximately 310 students across two campuses. We implement an inquiry-based STEAM program where students are encouraged to go beyond academic foundations to pursue their passions. Class sizes are intentionally small, ranging from 8 to 15 students.

The PositionWe are seeking a dynamic, energetic Middle School Spanish Teacher to join our dedicated team. We are looking for an experienced educator to teach 3 sections of 6th-grade Spanish and 2 sections of 7th-grade Spanish who is passionate about creating safe, positive environments for students from diverse backgrounds and who can successfully integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) into the world language classroom.
This candidate will bring a lens of equity and inclusion to all aspects of their work — ensuring that Spanish instruction reaches and affirms every learner, and that innovation and design opportunities are accessible to all students regardless of background or learning profile.
- Curriculum & Instruction:
Develop high-quality, innovative Spanish curricula anchored in Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Comprehensible Input (CI) . - Student Engagement:
Spark a love of the Spanish language and culture while providing students with opportunities to question, investigate, and wonder. - Differentiation:
Conduct dynamic and flexible instruction to address a variety of learning needs and interests. - Classroom Culture:
Maintain a vibrant, calm, and responsive environment that models SEL principles. - Collaboration:
Work collegially with administration, faculty, and parents; participate in school-wide activities, meetings, and conferences. - Professional Growth:
Maintain a growth mindset, examining one’s own teaching with a critical eye to continuously improve practice.
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required (Experience in elementary or middle school preferred);
Master’s Degree and/or Teaching Certification preferred. - Experience:
Proven experience teaching middle school Spanish and an in-depth knowledge of language acquisition best practices. - Communication:
Effective written and verbal skills; ability to listen actively and communicate with professional ethics. - Technical Integration:
Ability to thoughtfully integrate technology into the classroom as a tool for innovation. - Mindset:
Team-oriented, positive work ethic, and a commitment to transparency, inclusion, and curiosity.
- Requires physical presence on campus.
- Ability to sit/stand for 4–8 hours and navigate stairs regularly.
- Occasional lifting (1–20 lbs.), pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Salary Range: $78,000 – $115,000 (Based on experience)
