TK After School Associate Teacher – YMCA of Greater San Francisco

Position Summary:

The TK After School Associate Teacher provides a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children aged 3½–5. The associate teacher supports Lead Teachers, maintains positive relationships with families, and follows YMCA policies and licensing guidelines.

  • Miraloma Elementary School – 175 Omar Way, San Francisco, CA 94127
  • Dolores Huerta Elementary School – 65 Chenery St., San Francisco, CA 94131
Job Responsibilities
  • Curriculum & Instruction:
    • Plan and lead age‑appropriate lessons and activities.
    • Teach in a TK after‑school classroom for ages 3.5–5.
    • Support a Chinese or Spanish immersion curriculum.
    • Complete child observations and required documentation to inform curriculum planning.
  • Classroom Management & Environment:
    • Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and overall daily management.
    • Maintain active supervision and create a positive, structured learning environment using developmentally appropriate guidance.
    • Keep indoor and outdoor learning spaces clean, safe, and organized.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Collaborate with teachers, aides, and volunteers; fully participate in daily activities.
    • Communicate regularly with staff and families about child behavior, incidents, and program updates.
    • Report to the Lead Teacher and communicate with site leadership as needed.
  • Family Engagement:
    • Support family orientations and maintain positive relationships with families.
  • Professional Expectations:
    • Attend required trainings and meetings; complete all onboarding, compliance, and safety trainings.
    • Follow YMCA policies, safety procedures, and mandated reporting requirements.
    • Apply professional development learnings in the classroom.
    • Model the YMCA core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
    • Demonstrate growth in leadership, teamwork, and advancing the YMCA mission.
  • Work Environment & Physical Demands:
    • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • All YMCA employees are considered to hold a supervisory and/or disciplinary role over minors. Fingerprinting is required upon hire and will be processed through the Association Office Human Resources department prior to the first day of work.
    • Staff assigned to SFUSD campuses may be required to complete additional COVID‑19 safety training as mandated by the district.

Salary

Description:

The TK After School Associate Teacher position offers a competitive hourly rate of $26.00–$28.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. The hourly rate meets benchmark standards and is in accordance with grant requirements.
