Position: Interim Associate Dean of Academic Planning - (Administrator III) - DUEAP Dean's Office

Position Summary

The Associate Dean of Academic Planning reports to the Vice Provost of Academic Planning and Dean of Undergraduate Education and coordinates division functions related to curriculum, program review and accreditation, assessment, General Education and the Experimental College.

The associate dean is part of the senior leadership team in the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning and works with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and the Vice Provost of Academic Planning and Dean of Undergraduate Education on DUEAP initiatives and university priorities.

Working closely with the Academic Senate and subcommittees, the Associate Deans of the colleges, and colleagues within the Division of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning (in particular, the Academic Planning staff, the General Education Faculty Director, and the Experimental College Faculty Director), the Associate Dean advances standards of coherence and quality throughout the academic curriculum/programs.

Position Information

Coordinates Curriculum Management

  • Works closely with college Associate Deans, program directors, chairs and faculty in the development of new and revisions to existing courses and programs in accordance with relevant policies.
  • Works closely with the University Curriculum Coordinator to review and provide feedback on curricular proposals and on the implementation of curricular changes mandated by policy.
  • Works closely with the Registrar’s office staff on implementation of curricular changes in degree audit and planner platforms (Curriculum Working Group).
  • Reviews and provides feedback on curricular policies.
  • Supports the University Articulation Officer on the implementation of curricular processes to support transfer students.
  • Coordinates credit for prior learning practices on campus.

Leads Program Review and Facilitates Accreditation

  • Works closely with the college Associate Deans, program directors, chairs, and the Academic Program Review Committee (APRC) to lead the campus program review process, support professional accreditation processes, and to ensure meaningful and productive outcomes.
  • Supports the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education (the Accreditation Liaison Officer) with the university’s accreditor, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
  • Reviews and provides feedback on policies for program review and other institutional practices expected by WSCUC for institutional accreditation.

Coordinates Academic Assessment

  • Works closely with the college Associate Deans, program directors, chairs, college Faculty Assessment Fellows and the Academic Program Assessment Committee (APAC) to support program assessment processes, and to ensure meaningful and productive outcomes.
  • Coordinates institutional assessment projects centered on student learning in core competencies of oral communication, written communication, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning and information literacy.
  • Reviews and provides feedback on policies about academic assessment.

Supports General Education and Experimental College Programs (EXCO) and All University Courses

  • Works closely with the Faculty Director of General Education to support the certification and recertification of courses in General Education, SF State Studies and American Institutions requirement categories.
  • Works closely with the Faculty Director of Experimental College to support the creation and offering of EXCO courses and ensure students are supported as new teachers
  • Acts as the chair for EXCO and All University courses offered by DUEAP for scheduling, adds, withdrawals and other student petitions.

Supervises Academic Planning Staff

  • Supervises six staff members in Academic Planning and provides leadership to two faculty directors (GE and Experimental College)
