The PositionUnder the direction of an assigned supervisor, accompany choirs, soloists and small ensembles for rehearsals and concerts; assist instructor by conducting choral rehearsals in the absence of the instructor. Click here for description.
Major Responsibilities- Accompany choirs, soloists and small ensembles for rehearsals and concerts.
- Accompany vocal students for solos performed in class and in recitals.
- Assist instructor as directed; assist in selection of solo material; may conduct choral rehearsals in the absence of the instructor.
- Lead sectional rehearsals by playing parts, identifying student mistakes and problem areas, correcting mistakes and providing the right notes and rhythms.
- Maintain student records and musical/score inventory as necessary.
- Play other keyboards (organ, harpsichord, synthesizer) as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
- Advanced music theory.
- Sight reading, conducting and coaching methods.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Skills and Abilities:
- Play the piano at the advanced level.
- Sight read complex musical scores.
- Accompany choirs, soloists and small ensembles.
- Accompany students in learning vocal music interpretations and technical aspects of music.
- Transpose and improvise; read chord symbols.
Training and
Experience:
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by private or college-level training in piano and music theory and at least two years experience as an accompanist including experience in accompanying soloists and following a conductor.

Favorable, involves a classroom, subject to working evening and weekend hours.
