Overview
The BMS / DSCB Curriculum Coordinator applies professional Student Services concepts, provides varied student services to students, faculty, and program management. Works on moderate to highly complex issues. Receives assistance on more complex student/faculty issues. The position involves a range of student services duties for both programs and may include recruitment, admissions, student orientation and events, and related programs.
Department DescriptionThe Graduate Education Unit (GMU) provides centralized financial management, reporting and oversight over the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) graduate program, the Developmental Stem Cell Biology (DSCB) graduate program, the Neuroscience graduate program, and the Medical Scientist Training Program. The position reports to the BMS / DSCB Program Manager and supports day-to-day operations, curriculum management and planning for the programs. The BMS program has 160 students and the DSCB program has 45 students.
Responsibilities- Provide varied student services to students, faculty, and program management.
- Assist the program manager, director, faculty, and students with recruitment, admissions, student orientation and events, and related programs.
- Support curriculum management and planning for BMS / DSCB programs.
- Address moderate to highly complex issues and assist on more complex student/faculty issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 1+ years of related administrative experience.
- Proven ability in problem identification, reasoning, and analysis to identify trends.
- Proven ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.
- Skills in service orientation, organization, active listening, and critical thinking.
- Ability to multi-task, strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong time management skills and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, independently and proactively taking initiative.
- Editing, proofreading and detail orientation are imperative.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, including confidential records.
- Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Interpersonal skills to work with department senior management, faculty, and students.
- Knowledge of University-specific computer applications and pertinent databases.
- Understanding of University rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives.
- Knowledge of department and school/college general and major course requirements.
- Prior experience with undergraduate or graduate level curricular affairs.
