Community College English Trainer (0306U) Center for Educational Partnership – Puente Project – 80220

Reporting to the Program Director, the Community College English Trainer designs, delivers, and manages UC Systemwide training and professional development programs for educational professionals and administrators, including faculty and staff at California Community Colleges. The Trainer applies adult learning theories and education methodologies to develop and implement new programs and statewide initiatives that address equity and culturally responsive practices in higher education.

Position

Summary

The Trainer works on complex performance and training issues within the California public education system, conducts needs assessments, develops learning activities, and collaborates across the organization to align evaluations with Puente’s strategic plan. The Trainer serves as subject‑matter expert in English and leads training projects, advising management and faculty on delivery methods and technology use.

Responsibilities Professional Development, Program Implementation, & Project Management
  • Plan and develop year‑round professional development (PD) programs that provide equity‑focused training to faculty and staff in California and beyond.
  • Plan relevant professional development in English in a culturally competent manner and participate in establishing a training framework that supports the Puente Model.
  • Develop and conduct differentiated professional development training for new Puente team members and design ongoing training workshops throughout the year.
  • Create unique content and materials that align with Puente pedagogy, program mission, and goals.
  • Coordinate professional development and implement new projects.
  • Support, coach, and develop a cadre of trainer‑faculty from the field who support Puente’s work.
  • Select and train program consultants and experts.
  • Develop curriculum that supports Puente pedagogy and classrooms.
  • Collaborate with the Puente training team and leadership on long‑term professional development planning and growth.
  • Keep up to date with research and trends for educationally under‑represented student populations and provide innovative strategies and best practices for program faculty.
Policy Analysis & Site Accountability
  • Provide support to community college and secondary program team members in understanding immediate challenges and opportunities in higher education institutions.
  • Coach and support current and new Puente faculty.
  • Assess and evaluate classroom practices to ensure alignment with Puente pedagogy and equity principles.
  • Support and monitor the work of Puente faculty through email, telephone, and site visits.
  • Collaborate with site coordinators to adjust and align practices with current data, research, and student needs.
  • Create and manage effective data reporting systems for Puente teams and administrators.
  • Create and implement new training materials and guidelines, such as an anthology and equity scorecard.
  • Develop guidelines and profiles that assist in the selection of qualified Puente Program Faculty.
  • Work on public policy projects related to broader professional development goals such as E&I and ABA legislative mandates.
  • Assist the Director with program expansion and onboarding new sites or faculty.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Research, gather, analyze, and summarize information for professional development projects.
  • Evaluate professional development training needs through data analysis, assessments, surveys, and expert consultation.
  • Participate in assessment and evaluation of the Puente program’s effectiveness and recommend changes to content, policies, and strategic goals.
  • Provide in‑depth analysis for research, planning, assessment, and projects with complex data.
  • Use advanced data management and statistical techniques on large relational databases.
  • Synthesize complex issues and present them in a creative, non‑technical manner.
  • Produce regular departmental reports on equity, inclusion, and diversity outcomes and metrics for leadership and stakeholders.
