Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Academic Director, the Math & Literacy Tutor is responsible for leading focused academic tutoring sessions and enrichment activities for youth in YMCA After School Programs. The goal is to foster mathematical achievement and confidence through tailored lesson plans that support school wide efforts in mathematics.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan and implement engaging, age‑appropriate lesson plans for elementary‑school students (K‑5th) to strengthen math/reading skills and confidence.
- Provide individualized and group tutoring support to meet diverse learning needs and promote academic growth.
- Design and facilitate academic‑focused enrichment activities encouraging critical thinking, problem‑solving, and a positive attitude toward learning.
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters participation and self‑confidence in mathematics and reading.
- Incorporate Youth Development Principles into activities to support students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
- Follow YMCA policies and safety guidelines during all tutoring sessions and activities.
- Maintain an organized and clean learning space to ensure a productive environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to improve teaching practices.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support program goals.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Math & Literacy Tutors work in dynamic classroom settings that may include indoor and outdoor spaces, requiring moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, and interacting with students. The role demands adaptability to a fast‑paced environment, a positive demeanor, and handling classroom materials and technology.

Salary
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $30.00 to $33.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with industry salary benchmarks.
