Our program is delivered indoors and out, at our beautiful campus in the Portola Neighborhood of San Francisco, in McLaren Park, and at Hawk Creek Farm.
For the school year we are looking for a first grade teacher to join our inspiring team
. This teacher will work collaboratively with the other grades teachers while also having individual freedom within their classroom. In keeping with the traditional Waldorf class teacher model, we aim to hire teachers who are open to looping for multiple years. We are anticipating a small group of eight gentle students continuing their journey at Golden Bridges School.
The type of teacher we are looking for:
- Previous experience in a grades teaching environment, either as a lead or long-time assistant
- Confidence in Waldorf curriculum and anthroposophy, enough to create a curriculum rather than simply follow one from the past that may not serve the students’ needs for today
- Ability and desire to collaborate with other teachers
- Inspiration to be part of a groundbreaking and developing school in an urban city
- Strong cultural competency and confidence working with diverse family backgrounds
- Capacity to curate a community that is socially just and equitable
- Enthusiasm for teaching and learning outdoors, including teaching one day a week at Hawk Creek Farm
- If new to Waldorf, commitment to pursuing Waldorf teacher certification and mentorship
A Grades Teacher’s responsibilities include:
- Develop age-appropriate curriculum for both the indoors and outdoors
- Commit to each child’s growth through inner work and the practical art of teaching
- Attend faculty meetings, school committee involvement and community festivals
- Teach 5 main lesson periods and up to 5-7 practice periods a week - totalling 18-20 contact hours with meal and recess duties distributed evenly between all full time grades and subject teachers
- With parent support, lead and/or participate in class field trips. For the younger grades, this includes day-trips. For grades 3+, this includes multi-night trips
- Write end-of-year reports
- Facilitate 4-5 parent evenings for the parents/guardians of the class
- Hold parent teacher conferences with each family in the fall and spring, and as needed throughout the year
- Provide weekly updates via email for parents
- Attend all in-school provided professional development offerings
- In partnership with the Pedagogical Director, develop a professional development plan for Waldorf education and Anti-racist training. Golden Bridges School sponsors all approved, required professional development
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree
- Previous teaching experience
- Waldorf teaching certificate preferred
- Able to work in United States
Reports to: Pedagogical Director
Evaluation:
Self-Evaluation Annually
Evaluation by outside evaluator biannually
Compensation:
$68,000 Base + Add-ons for years of experience
