Position Description:

Town School for Boys seeks Substitute Teachers for the 2024-25 school year starting in August 2024. Employment will be either on a daily basis or span a period of time. In the absence of the teacher, the substitute would manage a class, teach or co-teach with other team members, transition students from one class to another, and may include recess/lunch duty coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Job Include:

• Teaching in a grade-level homeroom including transitioning students from class to class (Lower School, grades K-4)

• Teaching in a specialist’s classroom (P.E., Art, STEM, etc.)

• Teaching in a departmentalized classroom (Upper School, grades 5-8) such as Math, STEM, Humanities, Literate Writer, Spanish, etc.

• Coverage of a teacher’s assigned duties

• Active engagement with students

• Communicate and follow up with teachers about student behavior and any incidents

• Intervene to assist students with conflict resolution as needed

Desired Qualifications and Skills Include:

The ideal candidate will have at least one to two years of teaching experience (in either traditional or non-traditional environments) working with elementary-age students. The candidate will have knowledge of the instruction of reading, math, science, and social studies.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States, be able to pass a criminal background check, and provide a TB Risk Assessment Questionnaire completed by a licensed health care provider

• Experience working with school-aged children

• B.A. in Education or a similar field

• Enjoys working with and has knowledge of basic needs and developmental characteristics of students K-8
