Job Summary
Lower School Teachers at Children’s Day School (CDS) work as a co‑teacher in their classroom, partnering with a colleague to implement curriculum and support learners’ needs. Teachers also collaborate with a grade‑level team to develop and refine grade‑level curriculum in alignment with the school’s mission and core learning beliefs. Teachers at CDS root their practice in inquiry, helping students develop agency over their learning through integrated topics and concepts across the curriculum.
PrimaryResponsibilities Essential Practices of a CDS Educator
- Co‑lead the development and implementation of grade‑level curriculum that is accessible to a diverse student population and meets the division’s learning goals.
- Provide hands‑on, inquiry‑based learning and creatively embed concepts and themes into the curriculum.
- Collaborate with a partner teacher and grade‑level teaching team to plan and develop curriculum and learning opportunities, using frequent communication and weekly collaboration meetings.
- Manage collaborative learning groups and demonstrate differentiation strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Provide coaching and feedback to a diverse student population through conferences and individualized support.
- Nurture a culture of social justice, inclusion, and action through curriculum, conversations, and community‑based learning.
- Design and implement formative and summative assessments that consistently provide feedback and demonstrate student progress.
- Create assessments and performance tasks that track student learning and competence development.
- Track and analyze assessment data to adapt instruction throughout the school year.
- Facilitate the social, emotional, and academic growth of students.
- Model cultural competence and address misunderstandings with curiosity and a learner stance.
- Co‑lead parent education opportunities, including Back to School Night, weekly classroom blogs, family conferences, and learning celebrations.
- Manage day‑to‑day classroom operations and maintain up‑to‑date curriculum documentation.
- Maintain timely communication with parents/guardians via calls, emails, blogs, and conferences.
- Pursue professional development aligned with goals and school initiatives.
- Partner with the Lower School Division Head, Grade Level Team, Learning Specialists, and Counselors to advocate for student learning and well‑being.
- Collaborate with the Division Head, Director of Curriculum and Innovation, Team Leads, and other leaders to set goals, respond to feedback, and focus on professional growth.
- Attend weekly division meetings, grade‑level team meetings, and family meetings to update on student progress.
- Support division needs with lunch duties, recess coverage, and other supervision responsibilities.
- Build collaborative partnerships with specialist teachers to integrate curriculum and support learning inside and outside the classroom.
- Engage actively in the professional learning community by advancing school‑wide initiatives and priorities.
- Partner with Admissions and Advancement to promote the CDS program and mission.
- Lead or contribute by joining committees, leading affinity groups, and collaborating with colleagues to sustain innovation and continuous learning.
- BS/BA (required)
- Experience with inquiry‑based elementary teaching models.
- Experience in curriculum development and/or oversight.
- Acumen in 21st‑century learning skills and diversity, equity, and inclusion issues.
- Knowledge, skills, and habits within whole‑child learning practices—core academics and SEL development.
- Strong communication skills and a solutions‑oriented mindset.
- Proficiency with technology, Google Suite, and multiple platforms for organization and curriculum implementation.
- The last day of school is June 12th; expected work continues until June 17th.
- Hours:
Monday – Friday, 7:45 am – 3:45 pm. - Division meetings:
Wednesdays, 3:45 pm – 5:00 pm.
The annual salary range is $59,805 to $131,264, based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; tuition remission; education reimbursement; professional development; and an employer‑paid retirement plan.
