Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Junior After School Tutor supports the Chinatown YMCA After School Program by assisting with participant supervision. Junior After School Tutors serve as positive role models, mentor program participants, and help plan and facilitate workshops and activities for fellow teens in the program.

Program dates:
Must be available to work 9/9/2025 – 6/30/2026

Job Responsibilities
  • Program Support
  • Provide assistance to Chinatown YMCA After School Program Coordinators, Program Leaders, and participants.
  • Organize and store program supplies appropriately.
  • Attend I-Works meetings and workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Facility & Safety
  • Assist with site facility upkeep, including walk-throughs, equipment management, and safety checks.
  • Follow YMCA policies regarding safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
  • Complete all required ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA e-Learning before the first scheduled shift.
  • Communicate regularly with the program supervisor.
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Model YMCA values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in interactions with members, participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Leadership & Development
  • Demonstrate commitment to developing in the Cause Driven Leadership areas:
    Advancing our Mission and Cause, Building Relationships, Leading Operations, and Developing & Inspiring Others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Age 14–18; a work permit is required for those under 18.
  • Current high school student.
  • Interest in youth development.
  • Availability of at least 8 hours per week, primarily weekday afternoons with occasional weekends.
  • TB test clearance required if assigned to an SFUSD site.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Chinese;
    Mandarin or Cantonese
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory responsibility for minors. Fingerprinting and background checks will be completed prior to the first day of work in accordance with YMCA policy.
  • Staff working on school campuses may be required to complete additional COVID-19 safety trainings.

Salary Description

The I
- Worker Junior After school Tutor position offers a compensation rate of $19.50 $ 21.55/per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
