Position Summary

Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a summer program designed to prevent learning loss and provide academic support. It serves K-8 students from San Francisco and San Mateo County, helping them strengthen their academic foundation as well as social‑emotional and critical thinking skills. Students participate in daily math and literacy instruction with credentialed teachers for three hours a day, four days a week, to address learning gaps and prepare for the upcoming school year.

PSA Teachers deliver curriculum for K-8 students, collaborate with assistant teachers to promote student and family engagement, and provide families with regular updates on student progress and support needs.

The program will run from June 9 to July 31, 2026, with specific dates varying by district site. Training will begin on May 17, 2026, and will include sessions tailored to the program and individual training needs.

Job Responsibilities Instructional Planning & Delivery
  • Design and deliver grade‑appropriate academic content.
  • Address scholars’ individual academic and instructional needs to ensure meaningful participation in learning.
  • Support assistant teachers in planning and directing project‑based learning activities.
Classroom Management & Student Engagement
  • Foster a positive, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Set and uphold high academic and behavioral expectations for scholars.
  • Utilize positive discipline strategies to encourage constructive choices and serve as a role model.
  • Collaborate with assistant teachers to ensure scholars achieve academic objectives through effective in‑person or virtual engagement.
  • Mentor teacher assistants to support their professional growth.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate scholar records and adhere to program and district guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and a current teaching credential.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in an urban K‑8 public school setting.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and technological proficiency.
  • Proven ability to establish relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Specialized expertise in curriculum areas such as literacy or math.
  • TB test clearance within the last two years (required for programs located on school district sites).
