Staff Psychiatrist
Part‑time (60%)
LocationSan Francisco, CA
Job SummaryThe primary role of the Staff Psychiatrist is to provide direct psychiatric assessment, consultation, and medication management to patients referred for trauma‑related disorders and related symptoms such as sleep disturbance. Many patients also present with pre‑existing psychiatric disorders including major depression, bipolar disorder, or substance use disorder. The psychiatrist collaborates with TRC‑RTC therapist colleagues to screen for substance use and offer medication‑assisted treatment when required.
Consultation to therapist colleagues on complex diagnosis or management issues and support for short‑term disability consultations are also part of the role.
Given that numerous patients are followed in Community Mental Health clinics, the psychiatrist communicates medication plans to primary care providers and coordinates medical care, such as laboratory follow‑up. When patients are psychiatrically stable on simple regimens, they may be transferred to primary care while the psychiatrist remains available for consultation or reassessment during the TRC‑RTC treatment period.
Additional duties include supervising naloxone distribution in the clinic (offering naloxone free from the CBH pharmacy to eligible patients), reviewing naloxone administration annually with clinic staff, providing annual de‑escalation training, and engaging in quality improvement projects to enhance clinic function in collaboration with the Division Director.
