GGRC is currently hiring for a Physician to provide medical evaluations as part of the assessment process to determine eligibility for potential clients and provide consultation on medical matters to Social Workers and other staff in their on-going efforts to serve clients. Work closely with nurses and case management staff on the clinical team for issues related to Consents for medical treatment/Advance directives.
This role will be expected to work 32 hours a week and offers a hybrid schedule offering the opportunity to work out of any of our three offices in San Mateo, San Francisco and San Rafael, CA. This role will also require you to travel within the Counties of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin. Occasional statewide travel to sites throughout California.
Access to reliable transportation permitting travel to and between many different locations throughout the day to perform the outlined responsibilities of the position.
- Client Assessment & Support
- Assessment of individuals for eligibility purposes and level of function
- Determine medical diagnoses.
- Contact primary physicians and other agencies to obtain medical/health information and clarify or otherwise discuss diagnoses, treatment and other pertinent concerns.
- Arrange for specialty examinations and tests.
- Reviews records pertaining to clients’ medical and developmental history.
- Serves as lead member of Interdisciplinary Team in determining eligibility for center services.
- Participate with other GGRC professionals in planning for appropriate client care.
- Develop a plan to ensure that clients receive appropriate medical care.
- Counsels others as appropriate, such as clients’ families, on the medical aspects of developmental disability and care needs.
- Serve as consultant on complex medical issues for continuing cases, including the use of psychotropic medications & poly pharmacy.
- Coordinate and serve as a liaison for family and case manager with medical/psychiatric/dental and other providers of care as necessary.
- Work closely with nurses and case management staff on the clinical team for issues related to Consents for medical treatment/Advance directives.
- Organizational Support
- Coach case managers on signs relating to medical developmental and behavior characteristics of the children we assess for eligibility.
- Serve as consultant for other regional center professionals.
- Serve on regional center and community committees as needed.
- Function as a liaison with the general medical community.
- Advocate for prevention services.
- Participate in in-service training programs.
- Represents the center in the community and in medical associations.
- Train local pediatric interns and residents about the Regional Center system and Developmental Disabilities.
- Attend meetings of the ARCA Physicians.
- Write reports and keeps records as required and according to accepted professional standards.
- Participate in special projects, and assist with additional duties or tasks, as assigned.
- Maintain all client information as confidential in compliance with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the California Lanterman Act.
- Medical Degree (M.D.)
- Possession of a license to practice medicine in California issued by the State Board of Medical Examiners at time of hire and ability to maintain license in good standing.
- Certification or eligibility for certification by specialty board such as Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Family Practice.
- 2+ years in developmental disabilities or possession of MPH and 1+ years work with developmentally disabled Demonstrated interest in the developmentally disabled.
- The ability to understand what people tell me of their issues and to be able to interpret medical terms, symptoms and diagnoses into language understood by case managers and other staff.
- The ability to make correct medical decisions, at times, with incomplete information.
- To be an accurate observer of (developmental) behavior in adults and children.
