Design Manager- Existing Fleet Innovations

Our team manages Apple’s retail stores, workplaces, and workplace services. We develop and manage Apple’s global real estate portfolio, lead capital construction projects, provide facilities and site services, lead sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact, including commute and renewable energy programs, and ensure the health and safety of all personnel, facilities, and customers in our facilities around the world.

The Retail Design & Innovation team creates and cares for Apple stores that look, feel, and function as beautifully as our products, focusing on the employee and customer experience and driving a global strategy that sets the bar.

Existing Fleet Innovations focuses on ensuring our current stores worldwide, across all vintages, are well positioned to serve changing needs.

In this role you will analyze, research, and create key new architectural components and compelling design solutions in the complete store environment, including both sales areas and backstage environments. Your primary goal will be to innovate and drive design options and deliverables with input from cross-functional partners within the Places team to generate efficient, thoughtful, and relevant solutions for our existing fleet of stores in a timely manner.

• Develop innovative design concepts for specific architectural components, systems, details and create work products for internal approval reviews
• Directly manage a diverse team of external architectural and engineering consultants and vendors to create and maintain documentation used across all existing store projects
• Collaborate on individual design initiatives and find innovative strategies to streamline and incorporate into Retail Standards
• Understand and interpret local and international building codes, integrating comprehensive design solutions that comply with local and/or international codes
• Work directly with Places team members from Real Estate, Development, Preservation, Facilities, and Pre-Construction
• Work cross-functionally with internal Apple groups outside of your team to integrate new initiatives for exiting stores worldwide
• Contribute to strategic thinking and innovative development of improvements for existing store designs across all store types

• 10+ years of architecture and construction industry experience
• Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally
• Professional degree in architecture or construction management
• Working knowledge of CAD, Sketch Up, Rhino 3D, BIM tools and strategies
• Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and finalize projects effectively and independently

• Professional licensure preferred (Registered Architect, AIA, etc)
• Excellent communication skills and experience building strong working relationships across business groups and stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of common construction methods, materials, and practices
• Ability to express ideas and concepts by freehand sketching
• Demonstrate flexible thinking and creative problem solving within a fast-paced environment
• Impeccable attention to detail
• Genuine passion and curiosity for architectural design and the arts

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $175,300 and $263,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through discretionary programs, including employee stock purchase plans.
