Jeff Schlarb Design Studio (JSDS) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Designer (Commercial) to support our growing commercial design portfolio, with opportunities to contribute to select residential projects as well.
This role works closely with the Principal, Design Director, senior designers, vendors, and installers to bring thoughtful, high-quality interiors to life. The position is typically Monday–Friday, with flexibility during peak install periods and occasional weekends as project needs require.
What You’ll Do- Support senior designers with space planning and layout development for commercial environments.
- Assist with furniture, art, and décor selection (with sourcing support from expeditors).
- Prepare client-facing presentations, mood boards, and design decks.
- Incorporate client and internal feedback into design revisions.
- Participate in site walks, walkthroughs, and field measurements.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure design intent is carried through on site.
- Maintain organized design documentation, drawings, and visual materials.
- Proactively manage tasks to support project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate with the Design Director, Principal, vendors, and builders to meet project goals.
- Take a hands‑on, solutions‑oriented approach during installs and on‑site problem solving.
- Contribute to a positive, professional, and collaborative team culture.
- 1–3 years of experience in commercial interior design or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or a related field required (or equivalent professional experience).
- Commercial design experience (office, multifamily, hospitality, retail, etc.)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Comfortable working both in the office and in the field, including hands‑on support during installs and build‑outs.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, problem‑solve, and adapt in a changing environment.
- Self‑motivated, deadline‑driven, and collaborative.
- Positive, solutions‑oriented mindset with a commitment to great client experiences.
- Hourly rate: $33–$38 per hour, based on experience.
