About the Team

The Business Money team is on a mission to help small businesses thrive by making financial management their greatest strength. Poor financial management is the #1 reason small businesses fail—we exist to change that. Our team builds intuitive, powerful tools that give business owners more control over their cash flow, deeper confidence in their financial health, and the ability to make smarter decisions with every dollar.

By turning complex financial tasks into simple, empowering workflows, we help business owners spend less time managing money and more time doing what they love: growing their business, serving their customers, and realizing their vision.

About the Opportunity

As a Staff Product Designer on Business Money at Gusto, you’ll help shape the future of financial tools for small businesses. You’ll be a strategic partner on a cross‑functional team, leading the end‑to‑end product design process—from setting a bold vision and defining long‑term strategy to shipping high‑impact features and continuously improving the experience. We’re building foundational products in a space where clarity, trust, and usability are critical.

You’ll use customer research and data to inform your decisions, balancing immediate opportunities with durable, long‑term value. If you thrive in ambiguity, obsess over customer outcomes, and love bringing structure to complex systems, we’d love to meet you. This role reports to the Head of Design for New Revenue Streams.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day
  • Work with your cross‑functional partners to define a long‑term UX vision for your product area and how it fits into Gusto’s broader vision
  • Influence the definition of product strategy, roadmap, team OKRs, and project direction
  • Build our collective understanding of customers’ benefit needs through research and data
  • Design and ship both net‑new and iterative projects that deliver consistent value to our customers
  • Contribute to Gusto’s product design leadership community by sharing your skills and experience
  • Champion our design system and platform standards, and help evolve them through your product work
Here’s what we’re looking for
  • 8+ years’ Product Design experience
  • You’ve led design direction across teams and product areas, shaping both product strategy and design execution in complex, high‑leverage spaces.
  • You’ve designed simple, intuitive experiences in complex or technical domains—ideally in platform or services contexts.
  • You partner closely with product and engineering to influence both roadmap and systems decisions, translating technical constraints into better customer outcomes.
  • You maintain a high bar for quality, and stay hands‑on to ensure thoughtful, high‑impact solutions reach customers.
  • You think holistically, designing cohesive customer journeys that span digital products and human support touchpoints.
  • You thrive in ambiguity, lead through action, and are motivated by seeing real customer impact—not just shaping plans or decks.
  • You bring strong opinions held loosely, engage in constructive debate, and help teams align quickly to move…
