Vendor questions
- Titles or % split hands-on creation, inception? Needs to be an executor – prime role – however huge opportunity to bring ideas to the table. Not just taking orders and executing. I want them to say, “Hey, saw this trend on social I think this would be cool to do with Slack.” Title is social designer; video editor opens a whole world – not really looking for someone only video editing / social designer – but they should be able to take customer footage, soundbites, make a cut, add light graphics;
this is a blend of a role, not one way or the other. Not just looking for a director. - Customers? Slack customers; creative team travels and does long-form social. This person helps make social-first assets (quick-form content, fun stuff that can go on social) with these videos.
- Motion graphic vs animation? They need to be able to add motion graphics, like title cards and overlay graphics, but don’t need to be highly skilled – quick, social-first work. Mediocre motion graphics and editing accepted as long as they can build upon short-form content that is social-first.
- Tools in day-to-day, must have? After Effects for animation, Canva for social templates, and Figma as a prime design tool. These are all mandatory.
- Video editing tools? Mostly After Effects.
- They are given the videos from the creative team and will edit videos to put on social. For example, at flagship events, interview customers, add openers/end cards with Slack branding, and edit.
- Social media manager with hands-on experience with these tools? The person will work closely with social media but focus on strategy and operate independently within the tools mentioned.
- Open to more senior candidates willing to do this job? Yes.
- Timezone preference? Any US timezone; core hours are 9 AM – 2 PM PT to cover all time zones.
- Opportunity for contract-to-hire, long-term role.
- How many videos per week? Working on many at once in various stages.
- Social platforms? Primarily Instagram, X (Twitter), and Linked In. Must be comfortable with these and have a strong grasp of channels to generate good social concepts. Active on social media; own pages showing editing skills can be a plus. Must be social-first.
- Profiles with reels of work acceptable? Video reels showing work are fine; if possible, add a write-up detailing the role in the video.
- Industry/size? Tech/SAAS experience preferred;
Slack is fast-paced and fluid. Experience in tech favored over only B2C. - AI-driven creative tools a must-have? Slack is AI-forward; candidates should generally be interested in AI and able to discuss it. No specific tool requirements beyond being AI-enabled.
- Use of AI tools for templates or editing (e.g., ChatGPT or Gemini) is acceptable as a minimum for proofreading or scheduling; ideally deeper AI usage in video editing, templates, and filters.
- Agency work with Fortune 100 tech clients? Absolutely.

Top candidates speak with the creative director they report to, then head of social media. - Portfolio should showcase fit for this role and be ready to discuss in interviews.
