KGO-TV/ABC7 News, the ABC Owned Television station in San Francisco, is seeking a smart, dedicated and aggressive multi-skilled journalist who loves to dig and enterprise lead stories. ABC7 News is committed to Building a Better Bay Area through solutions journalism. The ideal candidate must be a passionate storyteller, brilliant multi-platform content creator, effective communicator and proven collaborator. Candidates must have a strong editorial background in a breaking news environment and be active users of social media for news gathering, with the ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms.

Applicants are expected to shoot, write and edit visually creative, memorable stories with active live reporting. A successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing contacts and sources and telling impactful stories. The role requires innovating daily and experimenting with new technology, staying organized under pressure and deadlines, and bringing a positive attitude while being receptive to feedback and leading a newsroom team.

Reporters turn stories daily for newscasts, our website and the 24/7 stream. They maintain an active social media presence, write and shoot with lightweight digital cameras, edit stories, and appear live from the field during the station’s newscasts. They use consumer/prosumer cameras, cell phones, and non-linear editing. Reporters must pitch original stories and develop local contacts.

This position is covered under the Company’s collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.

• Report daily stories
• Report longer form stories
• Maintain social media presence
• Prepare digital scripts

• 5+ years of experience in a top 50 market
• Excellent writing skills with solid news judgment and ethical decision-making
• Ability to shoot video and edit stories for linear and digital platforms
• Proficient in operating handheld prosumer/consumer cameras and non-linear editing
• Superior on-camera presentation

• Bilingual is beneficial
• Knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area

  Bachelor’s degree
• Preferred:
  Journalism or Communications degree

The hiring range for this position in San Francisco, CA is $90,948 to $160,000 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay may vary depending on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
